It’s Day 7 on our advent calendar of festive entertaining tips! Time flies when you’re having fun. And whilst we might be dreaming of a white Christmas, the sun is out, the streets are a-buzz, and we’re giddy with the irrepressible, ever-present carols!
Adorned in all its festive cheer, the Aussie Christmas is a veritable celebration of summer. Tis the season to catch up with fam + friends. Beach-lounging, chillaxing with a beaded glass in hand – a crisp chardie, rosé, or a cheeky verdelho – over a mezze picnic…

By contrast, mulled wine + cider says winter. Spiced up, honey and citrus-infused, its the perfect antidote to chilly cockles + bones. Given the lack of winter wonderland, a toasty egg nog seems a little less tempting… So we gave it a little makeover.
Enter Iced Egg Nog. For a more chilled-out cheers! Serve it up in fancy tumblers or cocktail glasses for added chic. This super-simple recipe serves 6 – so invite over some peeps!

You need
1/2 cup (110g) caster sugar
2 cinnamon quills
2 eggs
3/4 cup (185ml) pure (thin) cream
3/4 cup (185ml) milk
100ml each brandy, rum & sherry
Ice cubes
Ground or freshly grated nutmeg, to dust
The how
- Place sugar + cinnamon quills in a saucepan with 1/2 cup (125ml) cold water. Stir over low heat until sugar dissolves. Simmer for 1 minute, then remove and cool.
- Combine 100ml of the syrup in a blender with eggs, cream, milk + alcohol.
- Pour into cocktail glasses over ice + serve dusted with nutmeg.
