We’re starting off winter with some glamorous style inspiration from this month’s birthstones. Here’s what you need to know about the pearl, alexandrite and moonstone.
Happy winter! Just like the seasons, our style inspiration is ever-changing. As we welcome the colder months, we’re also embracing the perks of their glamorous birthstones.
June is particularly special because it is one of only two months in the year that is associated with three different gems. More jewels? We like the sound of that 😉
Typically, June’s most popular birthstone is the pearl. As beautiful and timeless as it is, there are also the alexandrite and moonstone gems that are gifted to those born in the month of June.
Most of us have seen pearls worn by royalty and celebrities alike. Their opalescent appeal is truly classic. The creamy white beauties are the only gems made by living creatures – molluscs and clams.
The moonstone, as the name suggests, has the appearance of a shimmering moon. It’s similar to the appearance of a pearl but its microscopic layers produce subtle colours from grey to blush to blue.
On a different scale, the alexandrite is a unique jewel that changes between emerald and ruby hues in different lights. It’s perfect for those who love moody colours. The alexandrite is quite rare and therefore even more valuable than most diamonds!
How to style with the June birthstones
This month’s birthstones have such an array of characteristics that there’s something to suit everyone’s interior style!
The pearl and moonstone are about the shimmer and the glistening effect that bounces off subtle colours. For that timeless glamour in your home, opt for an abstract artwork with marbled patterns or swirls of pastels.
Start with larger pieces of furniture in simple and elegant tones. We adore sofas and armchairs in frost or cream hues. Keep it warm for winter with chunky knit blankets and cushions in dusty pinks and sky blues. Cosy doesn’t have to mean dark!
If it’s the alexandrite that captures your heart, start with broody hues and timber tones for a rustic feel. Use ruby and emerald tones decoratively in your space. Embellish your tables with exotic candle holders and elaborate vases, and embrace winter with wine and forest-coloured sheepskins.
