4 Reasons You Should Celebrate ‘Christmas in July’ This Winter

What better excuse to get friends and family together than to celebrate Christmas in July? Here are four reasons to start a new tradition this year…

Those of us in the Southern Hemisphere don’t really have Winter Wonderland-type Christmases. We have seafood feasts and days on the beach! While there’s nothing in the world like it, it’s the perfect reason to throw a Christmas in July party – to get the best of both worlds, of course.

Get in the festive spirit as nights get colder, drinks get warmer and the house begins to smell of wintery scents like cinnamon and sandalwood. Bliss <3

So gather your family and friends around, and give your winter Down Under the merry attention it deserves.

1. The Christmas Feast

What’s a Christmas in July party without food? Or specifically, a feast. Winter is a time of comfort food, so that plus Christmas is basically an opportunity not to be missed!

We’re talking stuffed turkey, roast ham and pumpkin pie. (Or check out these non-cliché Christmas meals if you’re up for something different!)

Put together a menu that will please your crowd and don’t forget the gingerbread men or drinks! This Christmas cake martini will really bring on December vibes 😉

2. The North Pole Vibes

A party isn’t Christmas-y without the tree, décor and tinsel. Of course, your decorations are only really staying up for the duration of your party so you don’t need to spend an eternity getting it all together. Here’s how to style your Christmas table in less than just 15 mins!

Be sure not to forget the tunes either. Play it in the background and listen to it over dinner conversation as the candles flicker and the laughter begins. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas never sounded better <3

Oh, and had you forgotten about the mistletoe?

3. The Presents

Christmas in July may not be a ‘real’ holiday, but it’s still fun to exchange small gifts to your loved ones. It can be that goofy mug, that pretty serving bowl or a much anticipated board game.

If you need a little more help, here’s an honest guide on the best and worst gifts.

Of course, gifts for each of your guests may be too hard (or stressful!) to organise, so another option is a classic game of Secret Santa. Or you can just decorate with Christmas crackers and have the work done for you 😉

4. The Santa Flicks

Your party may need some downtime after a huge meal and a night of conversation. Once your guests leave, there’s no need for Christmas to leave with them.

Enjoy the rest of the night with your family (and pet) curled up while watching a classic movie. Home Alone, Dr Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas or Love Actually fill us with all the warm fuzzies! Or just take a look at this list of our top 12 Christmas films.
